Camel market

At last

According the Bradt it should be in the West! The West is running from the North to the Southpole. So thats easy to find. The street, given on the map by theh Bradt was... the wrong one. A few weeks a go we spend hours driving around in a kind of very very huge.... village with sunbaked brick stone houses. All the same to us. Planted in blocks, separated by sand and gravel roads. There is no way I can discribe it. I was glad not beeing a postman overthere. Anyway, after harrassing the Ambassy, UN staff and locals with questions about camels we finally got- the same direction- West but another road to follow. A street streched for at least 15 km in a straight line, direction West. After 10 km the tarmac ended. But we pushed on over the gravel. Somewere on the first 10 k we had seen some camels but according the book it should be hunderds of them. When we finanly diceded to turn there was nothing more than- desert. It was THE West- we could see that by the sun.

Disappointed we returned and agreed to look at the place with a few camels. We wanted camels!!
After questioning the people about the place it seemed to be.... THE MARKET. Less than a hunderd camels were to be seen. Irritating camel drivers, asking for money for every picture we took. Lots of camel shite and other trash a stinking place.Well we found comfort in the fact that we solved the problem. Cars have taken over Sudan less need for Camels .

Could make a film about it: The last camels of Sudan.
Showing some camelburgers.
