Haul don't pull

You must haul not pull!
When you feel them nibbling you have to let it go first.
If you feel it fighting let it swim.
You are spoiling bait this way.
Wise lessons taught by skipper fisherman Ahmed.
Lamu Northern East coast of Kenya.
Just came across this place in a twenty year old lonely planet. First wanted to go to Somalia. Looking into the actual situation of that place. Pirates- chasing oil tankers at full speed- firing live rounds. One can hardly call that a nice place to dangle his bait.
So Kenya it was. By some luck I found a hotel owner who knew a fisherman instead of a tourist sailor.
During the first day I proved my seaworthiness. His both sons were hanging over the side. Puking there guts out. Green yellow salivary. When that came I offered them water. Not that I felt sorry for them. No way. They just don’t make that much noise if they have something to puke up.It was a fine skipper and father. Did not return to shore out of pity. They just have to get used to the sea, he said.
I fully agreed. Paid for it; so fish! Due to the sea sicknesses of his sons I caught more fish than them. So the skipper asked me, to fish the following night, during full moon.I happily agreed. Three nights we sailed out at three o’clock. Fishing till sunrise when the fish stopped feeding. Well the results…..
